Chris Kilburn’s global journey to inControl as Senior Engineer

Joining in April, Chris brings a wealth of experience in major Process Automation and Distributed Control System applications.

Sent from Coventry to Germany (and back to the UK via Nigeria and the North Sea)

Joining in April, Chris brings a wealth of experience in major Process Automation and Distributed Control System applications, with a decade and a half in the Oil & Gas sector, working on topics from Safety Instrumented Systems, Fire & Gas Detection Systems and DCS.

Starting his career following a short spell at Lanchester Poly (now Coventry University), Chris worked as a computer programmer on DEC VAX & PDP11 at British Leyland, but then moved to Germany with Siemens for several years becoming fluent in German.

Amazing Africa

Following a short stint with programming Sun Microsystems in the City of London for Bank of America, Chris decided to major on engineering and began working offshore on a FPSO (Floating Production Storage & Offloading) vessel in the Bay of Benin (Nigeria) as well as the City of Lagos and in his words “… is the most chaotic city… but love the Nigerian people…”

In the last 4 years, Chris has settled in the Yorkshire and Humberside area, and “knew that inControl would be a great place to work, as a forward-thinking company with lots of ideas and a good history…”.

Chris believes he can use his vast experience to “help mentor and bring on younger engineers and apprentices…” and “bring a lot of value to the company and the projects we deliver for our customers…”.

Fully fluent not only in German, but also with all popular brands of PLCs & DCS Chris will be a valuable addition to inControl and our process industry customers and we welcome him to the team.

“I’m hoping to help mentor and bring on younger engineers and apprentices, and bring a lot of value to the company and the projects we deliver for our customers…
